Warren Shay served as a Board Member for Lake George Regional Park from its very inception in 1992 until present. The longest standing board volunteer, he guided the Park as Clerk from initial idea to incorporation, and through capital campaigns, and exponential growth in recent years. A steadfast supporter of many local groups, Warren believed in the importance of community libraries and recreation in nature, tenants that guided his public service in Central Maine. While his legal advice was of course a practical gift of service to Lake George Regional Park, he will be cherished for his succinct and sound advice on matters of compromise and interpersonal communication, his ability to use humor to light up a room, and of course, his ability to coax a bid out of any attendee to a Lake George fundraiser while wearing his seer-sucker suit. Warren hiked and skied the trails at the Park almost daily, making regular visits to the beach for swimming in summer. He was honored for his service with the “Shay’s Loop” trail on the Park’s West side in the Fall of 2020, and has left a lasting legacy for the community’s enjoyment through his service.
